Insomnia and Sleep

Insomnia is the failure to sleep. Most people will face difficulty with insomnia and sleep at some stage in their lives but it’s pretty regular and standard to have brief periods of insomnia. But, chronic insomnia indeed can be a true health issue as adequate sleep is vital to life and optimum health.
In case you’ve ever experienced the irritation of insomnia, you realize how it feels to retire to bed exhausted and then toss about as you just can’t sleep. You might gaze at the clock constantly, discover it hard to become comfortable, need to arise several times at night and simply find it tough to fall asleep. Quite a few people with insomnia find it problematic to fall asleep to start with while others will doze off but then find it hard to remain asleep. They may awaken repeatedly in the night or arise after just a brief interval of sleeping and be unable to return to sleep then.
Nearly everyone has suffered from insomnia some time or the other but when you experience insomnia that continues, it can have a significant impact on your well-being and health. It’s imperative that you take steps and do everything possible to find out the cause of insomnia and deal with it then.
When you’re unable to nod off at night, it makes you to be drained out in the day. Now this can have a bearing on your school or work performance and can produce risks for you while handling machinery, driving, and executing other jobs. Aside from these risks, sleeplessness for an extended time period is rather detrimental to health. It can make you to put on weight, to be powerless to combat disease and infection plus in rare cases, it could even be fatal.
Below are a few causes of insomnia:
- Stress
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Decreased melatonin
- Hormonal changes in females
- Allergies
- Asthma
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- Pain
- Hyperthyroidism
- Genetics
- Jet lag
- Restless Leg Syndrome
- Working long shifts, over-working
- Nicotine
- Excessive alcohol or caffeine
- Certain medications
- Environmental conditions (loud noise, etc)
- Hot environment
If you experience insomnia for over 1 to 2 weeks, you must visit your physician and attempt to find out the root cause of your problem. Staying for extended periods without sufficient sleep is really concerning and must be treated at once.
